Dog shot after attacking 5-year-old girl in North Philadelphia

Attack happened one block away from elementary school

Police shot and killed a dog that attacked a 5-year-old girl in North Philadelphia and secured three other dogs, around one block away from an elementary school, reports 6 ABC.

The attack happened late Monday afternoon at West Ontario and North 10th Street, which is one block away from Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School.

The girl survived and was not seriously injured. She had one bite on her face and was treated by a medic at the scene.

According to police, two officers responded around 4:45 p.m. to a radio call for a "person screaming" and found four dogs at the scene. They opened fire and killed one dog, then secured the others.

The attack comes less than a month after police shot a pit bull who attacked a woman in North Philadelphia.
