Old City Philadelphia has an established and vibrant arts community but Stanek Gallery, opening Nov. 20, hopes to stand apart with a unique curation plan.

Founders Katherine Stanek and Deborah Fine will let a rotating list of curators choose the work featured in their gallery, allowing for an ever-changing point of view.

Curators will choose work from both Stanek and Fine, as well as from fellow sculptors and painters that influenced their careers.

Those influencers include Moe Brooker, Bruce Samuelson, Gary Weisman and Stuart Mark Feldman, who all have roots in Philadelphia.

“Stanek Gallery is providing a new experience for both the artists and the art collector,” Stanek said in a statement announcing the opening.

“We’re less concerned with being gallerists and more concerned about creating an artistic environment that offers opportunities that do not currently exist in the Philadelphia art scene."

The gallery is 1,700 square feet of newly renovated space that features a working artist’s studio and a collector’s lounge set up as a living room. It will be open weekly Thursday through Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m.
