Members of the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia, which represents newsroom employees of the Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com, held a rally Thursday as tense contract negotiations continued.

A tentative two-year contract agreement between the Newspaper Guild and the owners of the Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com will likely go to a vote by the Newspaper Guild in two weeks' time after a strike was averted following an 11-hour marathon negotiation session on Friday.

According to Philly.com, both sides agreed not to divulge the terms of the new contract, which involved battles over seniority protection and health-care costs.

Guild president Howard Gensler said guild representatives were "firmly committed" to staying at the session and reaching a deal ahead of a 12:01 a.m. Sunday deadline for expiration of the current contract.

The union represents 445 employees including journalists, advertising sales representatives, and circulation personnel at both papers and the website.
