Pennsylvania Supreme Court Judge Kevin Dougherty.

Recently-elected Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dougherty was attacked by a homeless man Friday evening at 15th and Market streets in Philadelphia.

The apparently random attack at bout 6 p.m. came as the judge and his family left a restaurant, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The judge, brother of John "Johnny Doc" Dougherty, the powerful leader of Electricians Local 98, was treated briefly at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

An unidentified family member told the Inquirer the judge was home by 10 p.m. and that he was fine.

An attacker, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody.

Dougherty, a former Common Pleas Court judge, took a seat on the state Supreme Court in January.
