Philadelphia man sentenced to prison for tax fraud

U.S. Attorney says clients obtained $200,000 in false refunds

A man was sentenced to more than two years in prison Thursday for committing tax fraud out of his East Falls business.

David Nixon, 50, filed false returns for his clients as the owner of Economy Tax Services at 3731 Stanton Street, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

From 2007 to 2009, Nixon racked up more than $200,000 in fraudulent returns, according to prosecutors. Those false returns claimed several different deductions, including charitable contributions, tuition, and employee business expenses.

Nixon has been sentenced to 15 months in prison, as well as six months of subsequent house arrest and a year of supervised release. He has also been ordered to pay a $6,300 special assessment fee.
