Mahogany Terry, 27, is charged with retail theft, endangering child welfare and related offenses for allegedly shoplifting and then leaving her child behind as she fled store security's custody at the Macy's in Center City, Philadelphia.

The woman who ran from a Macy's store in Center City after being detained for allegedly shoplifting earlier this month – leaving her 4-year-old daughter at the store as she fled – has been arrested.

According to law enforcement officials, Mahogany Terry, 27, of the 2400 block of North 29th Street in Strawberry Mansion, was apprehended Monday at about 10 p.m. She is charged with retail theft and endangering the welfare of a child, which police alleged occurred inside the Macy’s at 1300 Market St.

Terry was being held by Macy's Loss Prevention department for suspicion of retail theft at about 6:10 p.m. on Feb, 11, police said, for allegedly stealing about $1,400 in merchandise.

She was with her 4-year-old daughter when Macy's detained her and took her to a room for further processing, police said. While in custody, Terry managed to free herself from a handcuff and escape the room, police said.

Law enforcement officials said after Terry fled, leaving her child behind, the Philadelphia Police Department was notified and officers took the girl to the Department of Human Services, where she later was reunited with relatives.
