ARTZ Philadelphia Founder/Executive Director Susan Shifrin leads a team of two volunteers in guiding a group of St. Joseph’s Manor Alzheimer’s and dementia residents through a holiday art project.
ARTZ Philadelphia, a nonprofit organization which gathers people living with dementia to discuss and create art, formed in July 2013 and has since experienced much success. To show off all of the work they've accomplished in such a short period, they'll host an exhibition of creative work by people living with dementia and their care partners Friday, Nov. 6.
The exhibit, titled "The Place Where I Laugh," will run at Impact Hub through Friday, Nov. 20. Works both made within the ARTZ program and within other Philadelphia-area organizations will be presented.
Programs hosted at St. Joseph’s Manor of Holy Redeemer, Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the Main Line Art Center, Woodmere Art Museum, Pine Run and Wesley Enhanced Living, plus the Muller Institute for Senior Health at Abington Jefferson Health and the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will all participate.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Friday, Nov. 6 6:30-8:30 p.m. Drinks and snacks will be provided and guests will also see the presentation of the 1st Annual ARTZ Philadelphia Community Catalyst Award to local artist Sara Steele.
