Atlantic City Public Works employee charged with conspiring in murder

Man helped plan killing last year, prosecutors say

A government employee was arrested Monday in connection with the murder of a man in Hamilton Township last fall, according to authorities.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said Edwin V. Velazquez, 42, of Atlantic City, was taken into custody at his place of employment, the Atlantic City Public Works, without incident for allegedly helping plan the killing of Michael Black.

Black, 31, was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside his home on the 5900 block of Elmhurst Drive in Mays Landing on Nov. 9, 2015.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The next day, Dennis J. Munoz, 37, of Galloway Township, was arrested and charged with Black's murder.

Prosecutors say a continued investigation led to Velazquez's arrest for agreeing to help with the "planning and/or commission" of killing Black. He's been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and being an accomplice to a murder.

Velazquez has been lodged at Atlantic County Justice Facility on $1 million bail with no 10 percent option.
