Eagles QB Carson Wentz's star shining off the field too

Media attention focuses on his play, sponsorship deals and girlfriend

The Eagles are 2-0 behind rookie quarterback Carson Wentz after shellacking the Cleveland Browns and the Chicago Bears in the first two weeks of the NFL season. Of course, the fan base is showing the cautious, wait-and-see approach for which Philadelphians are known.

Just kidding! It's Wentzylvania, baby, and everyone is on the Wentz Wagon with visions of future Super Bowl victories dancing in their heads!

The media and fans alike are tripping over themselves to declare Wentz "legit," "for real," "insane," "the real deal," and "the best quarterback in the NFL."

Even PhillyVoice contributor and WIP sports radio host Angelo Cataldi anointed Wentz the "next great NFL quarterback" a week after warning fans that past signal-callers Kevin Kolb and Nick Foles also showed similar flashes of brilliance.

Now, Wentz is appearing in television commercials to tell North Dakotans where to conduct their banking.

Fans are eating (and drinking Dunkin' Donuts coffee after every win) up everything they can find out about the young quarterback, including following his dog's social media accounts.

Case in point: The New York Post published on Tuesday all you need to know about Wentz's girlfriend.

Wentz and Melissa Uhrich are high school sweethearts, who both grew up in North Dakota and enjoy rounds of mini-golf.

The two did their own thing in college as Wentz stayed home to play football at North Dakota State while Uhrich ran cross country at Minnesota's Concordia College. The couple found ways to support each other despite the distance.

However, the most troubling tidbit for Eagles fans might be that Uhrich does not like when Wentz watches game film during dates and confiscates his phone when she catches him doing it. Hopefully, this does not factor into an Eagles defeat.

Despite all the attention and demands of the NFL, the couple is staying true to their Upper Midwestern values and plan to live separately until marriage.

That even-keeled attitude will come in handy when all the praise goes away after Wentz's first loss.
