Chester County communities considering regional policing

A regional police force could bring significant savings, proponents say

Police in Kennett Square are among a group of Chester County departments studying a regional police force.

Seven Chester County municipalities are considering forming a regional police force that would become the largest in the county, according to the Daily Local News.

Avondale, East Marlborough, Kennett Square, Kennett Township, London Grove, New Garden and West Grove are mulling the possibility following a study conducted by the state Department of Community and Economic Development. The study, which will be used as a formation guide, analyzed current policing operations, community demographics and the types and volume of service calls.

The move is expected to provide significant savings to communities that have their own police department. But London Grove, which is patrolled by Pennsylvania State Police, could see its expenses increase by $1.2 million, the newspaper reported.
