With days until Pa. voter registration deadline, Sanders to campaign for Clinton in Philadelphia

With days until the voter registration deadline in Pennsylvania, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will campaign in the state for both Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Katie McGinty, who is running for U.S. Senate.

On Saturday, Sanders will make his first stop in the battleground state in Scranton. He'll later head to University of the Arts' Gershman Hall on Broad Street near Pine Street.

The event starts at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Sanders is slated to talk about raising the minimum wage, combatting climate change and debt-free higher education at the Philadelphia rally, while he will rally with educators in Scranton.

Sanders isn't the only one making the last-minute push before the Oct. 11 deadline. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Vice President Joe Biden and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will all be in the area by the encroaching date.

State officials announced Wednesday that 325,168 Pennsylvanians registered to vote in September alone. A majority of those used the state's online registration method.

Gov. Tom Wolf also launched a "Send a Text, Register to Vote" program earlier this year. Eligible voters who haven't yet registered can text "PA" to "2Vote," where they'll be sent an online link to fill in their information.
