"Kathy’s Cuts" benefits Wigs for Kids, an Ohio-based nonprofit hair donation mission that has been serving children suffering from hair loss since 1981.
Long, luscious locks – rippling fingers through thick blades of hair – it’s what most women want, right? Meh. It grows back.
Kathy Romano, the voice delivering the morning traffic updates on 93.3 WMMR’s “The Preston & Steve Show,” is hosting the 10th annual "Kathy’s Cuts," which benefits the Wigs for Kids charity today, April 21. The haircuts are happening at the TruBeauty Concepts salon in Southampton, Pa.
Celebrating its 10th year, Kathy and the gang from the Preston and Steve morning show team solicited women, men, teenagers and children having 12 inches of hair or more to cut and donate their hair to needy children suffering from hair loss from a variety of ailments. Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit, Ohio-based mission, similar to Locks of Love, has served children suffering from hair loss since 1981. Those who donated then had their hair cut and styled by three local participating salons in exchange for a chance to win a diamond necklace from Steven Singer Jewelers.
“It started 10 years ago when I said to my hair stylist, Joe, at Gravity Hair Salon, 'I think I want to cut my hair, but I don’t want it to just fall to the floor and go to waste,'” said Romano. “I want to donate it."
"I was only able to cut my hair that first year. It amazes me that people’s hair grows so fast that we have some donors that come every two years, and a few that actually have enough hair to cut each year.”
Romano said stories that touch her the most are ones that come from children who donate their hair to give to another child.
This year’s participating salons are Gravity Hair Salon, Salon Fiber and David Arnold Hair Salon. Each person who donates will receive a gift bag filled with hair products from TruBeauty as well as some WMMR goodies. To celebrate 10 years of WMMR listeners donating their hair, prizes were given away each hour, including a cut/color/blow dry from each salon, hair dryer/product gift baskets from TruBeauty, and MMRBQ concert tickets. In addition, everyone who donated hair was entered to win a diamond necklace from Steven Singer Jewelers. Click here for more information on "Kathy's Cuts."
