Montco man sentenced to prison for Clean Air Act Violation

Anthony Biello II, 56, removed asbestos from a former church without notifying public officials

A former Ambler resident was sentenced Monday to one year and one day in prison for a violations of the

Clean Air Act.

Anthony Biello II, 56,failed to notify officials when asbestos-containing material from a former church located at 1133 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia was removed, according to the state attorney's office.

“Asbestos must be removed and disposed of safely and legally,” said David G. McLeod, Jr., Special Agent in Charge of Environmental Protection Agency's criminal enforcement program in the Middle Atlantic States.  “There is no 'safe' level of exposure to asbestos.  It is a serious threat to the general public's health and safety.  The sentencing demonstrates that those who try to make money by breaking the law and putting others at potential risk will be vigorously prosecuted.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Biello will pay a $100 fine, restitution to the city of Philadelphia of $12,000 and a $100 special assessment in addition to two years of supervised release. Biello cannot work in the asbestos removal industry during his supervised release.
