A Philadelphia school was ranked in the top 50 of a list judging the top public high schools in the nation, according to a U.S. News & World report released Tuesday.
Julia R. Masterman High School in Spring Garden was named as the top-ranked high school in Pennsylvania and the 46th-best high school in the country.
Schools were ranked according to four key factors: all students' performance on state assessments in reading and mathematics, disadvantaged students' performance on the same assessments, the school's graduation rate and the number of students taking and passing college-level courses. Masterman, a grades 5-12 school, has a total enrollment of 1,178 students and 54 full-time teachers, a 22:1 student-teacher ratio. The total number of high school students at Masterman is 421 students.
The school's "College Readiness" score is 92.2 on a scale of 0-100.
Masterman is one of 48 high schools run by the School District of Philadelphia.
