Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival
Philadelphia flips the calendar to May this week, with a packed lineup of performances, festivals and major annual events across the city.
Starting Thursday, a new take on "Romeo and Juliet" opens at the Academy of Music, while Philly Theatre Week continues through Sunday with discounted tickets and special programming at venues around the region.
The weekend ramps up Saturday with several of the city’s biggest street festivals happening at once. The Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival, South Street Spring Fest and the Fishtown Music & Arts Festival will bring food, live music and local vendors to their respective neighborhoods.
Sunday keeps the momentum going with the Chestnut Hill Home + Garden Festival, which transforms Germantown Avenue into a busy marketplace of plants, home goods and artisan vendors.
That same day, tens of thousands of runners will take part in the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run, drawing crowds along the entire route.
Throughout May, the city will also mark Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month, with events at places like Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center and Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, among others.
