One person is dead and another is injured after an execution-style shooting outside an Overbrook recreation center Friday night, NBC10 reports.
The shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. outside the Tustin Recreation Center at 60th and Columbia streets, according to police.
One victim, who was shot in the head execution-style at close range, died at the scene. Another, who was standing inside the center's playground, was hit by bullets. The second victim survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
CBSPhilly reports that the first victim, a 42-year-old man, was shot multiple times, including once in the head. The second, a 38-year-old man, was shot once in his hand.
There were children playing nearby when the shooter opened fire, police said.
“We hear gunshots – pop, pop, pop,” Alex Nash told CBSPhilly. “ Next thing you know we’re turning around, you know we have our kids playing out here as well so we’re frantic, we rush over to make sure the kids are alright.”
Police said two masked gunman driving a white Infiniti SUV fired several shots, according to MyFoxPhilly.com. They killed the 42-year-old man at close-range, just outside the swimming pool area.
"It appeared that he was ambushed because he was shot multiple times then the shooter came up on top of him to shoot him in the head to make sure he was dead," Philadelphia Police Captain Drew Techner told MyFoxPhilly.com.
Witnesses told police the suspects pulled into a nearby driveway, removed the license plate, and drove off.
The incident remains under investigation.
