A South Jersey mother is facing charges for multiple motor vehicle violations after crashing into a motel Wednesday with her child in the vehicle, Egg Harbor Township police said.

Police say 25-year-old Bernadette McDaniels was traveling eastbound on Tilton Road when she lost control of her 2009 Nissan Maxima.

McDaniels reportedly crossed the opposing lane of travel and drove into the side of the Rex Motel, causing significant damage to the building's structure. Police say her 4-year-old daughter was in the back seat of the vehicle.

According to police, investigators determined that McDaniels was impaired. She was taken into custody and charged with multiple motor vehicle violations relating to the crash, child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $5,000. McDaniels was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending court.

It was not immediately known who would be caring for the girl.

The Egg Harbor Township building inspector later deemed the Rex Motel to be "structurally unsound" as a result of the impact.

The incident remains under investigation.
