"Everything goes in," says Sacko, who, with the help of his colleague Williams, lifts an armoire into the back of the hopper.

With snowfall in the area expected to only hit about 2 to 3 inches in the city -- down significantly from earlier predictions that called for up to 7 inches -- Mayor Jim Kenney's office announced Tuesday that trash pickup, which had been suspended, would resume.

"Because of lighter than anticipated snowfall, the Philadelphia Streets Department will conduct trash and recycling collection today," the mayor's office said in a press release. "Crews that had mobilized for salting and plowing will now be shifted to resume the regular Tuesday trash and recycling collection. Any resident who misses the pickup today may leave their trash and recycling at their normal collection location on Wednesday."

Though snowfall is expected to continue into Tuesday evening, as of about 9:30 a.m., the National Weather Service predicted only 1 to 2 inches for most of the Philadelphia region.

Snow is expected to continue until midnight, and the National Weather Service said the evening's snow could amount to an additional 1 to 2 inches by Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service also forecasts a 30 percent chance of snow Wednesday.

The School District of Philadelphia was open Tuesday. Also, all SEPTA trains and buses were running as usual.
