Everything that's old is new again.
Urban Outfitters, catering to Generation Z and the youngest Millennials, is now selling old VHS tapes in an ironic, twisted homage to the '90s.
For $40, you can get a random amalgamation of five, used-looking, VHS tapes, for which you likely have no device to play them on anymore. Urban promises a "set of 5 iconic, assorted '90s comedy flicks on VHS tape, curated exclusively by Studiohouse Designs for Urban Outfitters."
Though the specific details on how tapes are selected were not shared, I imagine it's similar to visiting your parents' basement and seeing what's there.
The product has three reviews so far, which suggests that folks are indeed purchasing the VHS tapes. One review says they were purchased "as a display item only" and look great next to "my Crosley turntable and Instax polaroid camera." So there's that.
In addition to the comedy set, there are also curated collections of VHS horror, rom-coms, and sci-fi, plus a five-piece mystery pack.
Do you feel old yet? A lot of people on Twitter do.
I've never felt as old as I do right now, right this moment, reading about how Urban Outfitters is now selling $40 sets of random VHS tapes ("Don't worry - there are no duds in this batch!"). https://t.co/x4yo7LcC5u— Scott Wampler™ (@ScottWamplerBMD) February 14, 2019
They are the wooooorst. Urban Outfitters not VHS.— Liz Henry (@TheLizHenry) February 16, 2019
You could literally steal VHS from anywhere you see them and no one would even fight you. They can all be free if we want it.— tøøwøkēbrø (@toowokebro) February 15, 2019
