Durant: Kyrie Irving is better than Allen Iverson

Kevin Durant, fresh off his first NBA championship and a Finals MVP trophy, is poking the bear that is Philadelphia's fan base.

On Bill Simmons' podcast Wednesday, Durant praised several of the Cavaliers stars he faced in this year's Finals. Then Simmons started talking about point guard Kyrie Irving and how he was a "much better shooter" than Sixers legend Allen Iverson.

Durant agreed and went a step further. Here's the transcript, via SLAM, and you can listen to the clip below at the 37-minute mark.

“Kyrie is better than AI to me. I’m going from like skill for skill. His handle is better. We might have to cut that out — I don’t want no problems with AI. Y’all might have to cut that one. I don’t want that to get out. I’m just saying I feel like Kyrie got more skill.”

Seems like Durant knew there would be some blowback from his bold claim. It's true that Irving, still just 25, has a better overall 3-point and field goal shooting percentage than Iverson did in his career. But the handle? That's obviously debatable.

Predictably, Durant's Twitter mentions are already being flooded. Currently sitting at the highest point of his career, it's unlikely he cares.
