Will today be the day the Manny Machado or Bryce Harper finally signs that mega-deal?
[Spoiler warning: Probably not.]
What already feels like the longest offseason in the history of Major League Baseball doesn't show any signs of coming to a close, despite the fact that pitchers and catchers report to spring training in just over two weeks. Machado and Harper continue to be wooed by suitors as the majority of the baseball world remains in a holding pattern waiting for those two to sign their monster contracts.
Most recently, the Padres have emerged as a team interested in acquiring Machado's services — there could still be another mystery team out there — meaning the Phillies' competition for the free-agent infielder just increased. On the Harper front, however, things could be trending in the opposite direction, as the Dodgers' signing of A.J. Pollock likely spells the end of their pursuit of Harper.
So, what's next? You guessed it — more waiting.
