The iconic sign at the main gate entrance of the Philadelphia Zoo welcomes its 1.2 million annual visitors.

Each year the Philadelphia Zoo commemorates the coming of autumn with a special celebration for its animals and friends. With the "Beast Feast," the animals are given pumpkins and other seasonal eats to munch on - and often just play with - as a festive treat.

This year, "Beast Feast" will take place over the first two weekends in October (Oct. 3-4 and 10-11). Animals will receive pumpkins every half hour between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m, so there will be plenty of time to watch them react to their special holiday gift.

This event leads up to "Boo at the Zoo," the institution's annual Halloween celebration, which takes place the final two weekends in October.
