Report: Clementon business shut down due to mercury discovery

An aquarium business in South Jersey has been shut down after the discovery of mercury in a fish tank, according to a report.

6ABC reports that the Aquarium Center, located in the Commerce Plaza II at 1295 Blackwood Clementon Road in Clementon, was closed when the toxic substance was discovered on May 9.

Employees attempted to clean the tank along with the fish killed by the substance, but the mercury spread.

Acceptable levels of mercury are .05 milligrams per cubic meter, but the store's mercury level was 10,000 times that amount.

A criminal investigation is currently underway, led by the Gloucester Township Police Department.
