Philadelphia Eagles fans certainly won't miss Chip Kelly offensive series that were three plays in duration and were over by the time you got back from your trip to the bathroom on a commercial break. That said, one thing the Eagles almost never did offensively under Kelly was waste timeouts because the play clock was running down. Wasted timeouts were a common occurrence from 1999-2012, when one Mr. Andrew Walter Reid was the head coach in Philly, and they're probably coming back.

Over the last three seasons under Chip Kelly, the Eagles had difficult training camps, employing perhaps the fastest paced practices in the NFL. Players received maximum reps, but little in the way of in-practice instruction. On the bright side (for the players, anyway), the Eagles did not tackle in practice. Under Doug Pederson, Eagles training camp will do a compete 180.

The former coaching regime, or more specifically Chip Kelly himself, was often criticized for not being able to relate to players. Doug Pederson believes that coaches with playing experience have a better understanding of what it is to be a player in the league.

Ever since the Eagles selected Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick, they've made it clear that they want to be extremely patient with him. Wentz is a player the Eagles view as the long term centerpiece of the franchise, but not in any way some kind of short term fix. They're so dedicated to their patient approach, in fact, that Wentz probably won't even be active on game day initially, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

A few weeks ago, we took a detailed look at the average age of the Eagles' offensive starters compared with the rest of the NFL. It turned out that they have the second youngest skill position players in the NFL (if you cheat a little and use Carson Wentz instead of Sam Bradford), but the oldest offensive line in the NFL. Today, we'll turn our attention to the defensive side of the ball, and more specifically, the defensive front seven.
