Police: Suspect dead after SEPTA officer uses stun gun during assault

Police say a suspect is dead after a SEPTA police officer who was being assaulted used his stun gun.

According to 6ABC, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. Monday at the Market-Frankford El's Huntingdon Station in Kensington.

Police say the suspect, who hasn’t been identified, approached the officer while he was attempting to close the station for the night and began assaulting him, at which time a scuffle ensued and the officer reportedly employed his stun gun.

Police told 6ABC the suspect was taken to Aria Health/Torresdale, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The SEPTA employee was not seriously injured but was taken to an area hospital for a precautionary evaluation.

It was not immediately clear what caused the suspect's death. An investigation by Philadelphia police homicide detectives is underway.
