A Rutgers University student is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of two people in a dorm on Friday at the New Brunswick campus, according to police.

Daniel Leandry faces additional counts of aggravated assault and a weapons offense, according to university police, NBC10 reported:

Authorities say the attack was spurred by a confrontation involving Leandry and the victims, but further details were not disclosed. They said one of the victims is also a Rutgers student.
Leandry, an 18-year-old Garfield resident who lives in the dorm, was found in his room there a short time later. His bail was set at $735,000 and it wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.

NJ.com reported the victims were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries, citing Kenneth Cop, chief of campus police, in an electronic alert.

Earlier alerts sent by the university said the victims were stabbed around 7 p.m. Friday near the Mettler Residence Hall and that a suspect had been caught immediately, the web site reported.
