Two women assaulted during violent home invasion in Lawncrest

A woman and her mother were injured Wednesday night during a violent home invasion in Lawncrest, 6ABC reports.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. along the 6400 block of Dorcas St.

According to police, a woman was returning home when two men approached her in the driveway and forced her inside at gunpoint.

"They forced the 56-year-old woman down on the kitchen floor," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told 6ABC. "They struck her in the face with the gun, causing injury to her lip."

When the woman's 76-year-old mother entered the room, a suspect hit her in the head with a gun several times and forced her to the kitchen floor, police said. She suffered deep lacerations that required stitches.

Small said the men were asking for money. When the two women said they didn't have any, the suspects went upstairs and ransacked the second floor, pulling out drawers and overturning jewelry boxes before fleeing out the front door.

Police said it's likely some jewelry was stolen.

It is unclear whether the suspects were waiting for the daughter to come home, or they followed her home from work.

Police will review images from surveillance cameras located in the front and back of the house.

The incident remains under investigation.
