You wouldn't expect a biotechnology firm to have much interest in a juice business, but Philadelphia's Invisible Sentinel, Inc. would beg to differ.

The company, which specializes in microbe detection, has partnered with an international juice company with $3 billion in annual sales to uses its Veriflow technology to catch spoilage-causing bacteria, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported Tuesday.

Refresco Gerber, a Dutch company that squeezes out around 1.6 billion gallons of juice every year, will use the technology to detect the presence of the alicyclobacillus bacteria.

Invisible Sentinel's services can also be used for a very different kind of beverage company. In January, it partnered with four breweries across the country to detect bacteria in beer, including local favorites Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown and Weyerbacher Brewing in Easton.
