Annenberg Center's 'African Roots, American Voices' focuses on Jazz

The series spotlights a different musical genre each year

The Annenberg Center is hosting a multiyear event that celebrates the contributions African descendants have made to American culture. The series is titled "African Roots, American Voices" and will focus on a different musical genre each year. For the current season, running through May 2016, Jazz will be in the spotlight. The first genre choice is fitting, being that Philly has recently experienced a renewed interest in Jazz.

The next upcoming performance in the series is on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m featuring Mack Avenue SuperBand, which brings together four celebrated Jazz artists. Seven-time Grammy Award-winning vibraphonist Gary Burton, four-time Grammy Award-winning bassist Christian McBride, R&B saxophonist Tia Fuller and trumpeter Sean Jones will perform.
