Bartram's Mile to open on Earth Day

The Schuylkill River Trail runs along the eastern banks of the Schuylkill River as it passes through Philadelphia.

Bartram's Mile will finally open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Earth Day. 

Southwest Philadelphia residents will have increased access to green spaces, while runners, cyclists and hikers on the Schuylkill River Trail will have new grounds to explore.

The 1.1-mile Schuylkill Banks addition will run along the west bank of the Schuylkill River from Grays Ferry Avenue, through Bartram's Garden, to 56th Street.

Bartram's Garden is the nation's oldest botanical garden and is a National Historic Landmark.

The public ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 56th Street Plaza at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.
