Ben Winters to talk new book at the Free Library of Philadelphia

'Underground Airlines' comments on race relations in America

Author Ben Winters will be at the Free Library of Philadelphia's Parkway Central branch on July 14. His latest book, "Underground Airlines" (release date July 5), imagines a terrifying alternate history where the Civil War never happened, allowing for slavery to still exist in the modern United States.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Winters will discuss his work with attendees. The author event is free to attend.

Winters is the author of the "Last Policeman" trilogy, a series for which he won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the Philip K. Dick Award for Distinguished Science Fiction.

His other work includes the New York Times bestseller "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters" and the middle-school books "The Mystery of Missing Everything" and "The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman."
