Cross Properties reveals renderings of $20M 'Good Foods Flat' in University City

Student housing project to include food lab, commercial kitchen and incubator space

Developer Cross Properties has revealed plans for a new housing project that will support Drexel University's growing foodie community with a state-of-the-art facility including an incubator space, a food lab and a commercial kitchen.

The $20 million project, called the Good Foods Flat, will primarily aim to accommodate students enrolled in Drexel's Hospitality and Sports Management program, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

In total, the residence at 4030 Baring Street will contain 44 units and 175 beds that will also be open to students in other programs. In addition to offering a collaborative space around culinary innovation, the Good Foods Flat will host classes and cooking demonstrations from both local and national celebrity chefs.

The ground floor of the building will feature a pop-up restaurant and students will have the opportunity grow vegetables and plants on a rooftop garden and in the backyard of the residence. In case anyone's worried about overeating at a place like this, the residence will also include a 24-hour fitness center.

The Good Foods Flat is expected to be ready for students by the Fall of 2016.
