Happiness on a stick: Healthy popsicle recipes

Treats to stay cool as temps rise

Warmer weather is finally here. Before you know it, you'll be out enjoying the heat of summer and the cool treats that come along with it.

Popsicles are a classic snack for a warm day. (And let's be real - they're delicious any day of the year.) But before you grab that box of popsicles full of refined sugar and processed flavor, try making your own healthier version.

Local blogger Sally Quinn's three-ingredient recipe for strawberry banana popsicles is a perfect place to start.

All you need are some strawberries, a frozen banana and juice. Quinn suggests pineapple or freshly squeezed orange juice for an added tropical flavor. The frozen banana will give the popsicles a creamy texture.

These healthy strawberry banana popsicles are summer on a stick. They’re a snap to make and just what the doctor ordered as the temps rise. Turn off that oven, crank up the AC, and go get yourself an ice pop mold.

Quinn recommends purchasing an ice pop mold, but you can even use small cups or ice trays. Simply blend the ingredients, pour into your mold and freeze.

The possibilities for refreshing homemade popsicles are endless. Try using full chunks of fruit.

Sangria ice pops, anyone?

And, don't forget, if you don't feel like making them yourself, there's always Lil' Pop Shop at 265 S. 44th St.
