House fire injures man, kills dog in Olney

A house fire in Philadelphia killed a dog and left a man hospitalized Wednesday morning, NBC10 reports.

The fire broke out around 3 a.m. inside a home on the 500 block of Geneva Ave. in Olney.

A man in his 40s was able to escape the home through a front bedroom window with one of his dogs. He then went back into the home to rescue a second dog and came back out, neighbors told NBC10.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control a short time after arriving.

The homeowner, who suffered from burns and smoke inhalation, was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

While firefighters were initially able to resuscitate one of the dogs by giving him oxygen, he later passed away. The other dog is with the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
