One man was stabbed in the chest and another man was stabbed in the hand following a fight at Point Pleasant Beach on Monday.
A juvenile has been charged with allegedly stabbing two people during a fight on a Point Pleasant Beach on Labor Day, authorities said Tuesday.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon on Jenkinson's Beach. The juvenile is 17 years old from Newark, New Jersey. His identity has not been released because of his age. He has been charged with attempted murder, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
The two men who were stabbed are 18 years old and 22 years old, both from West Haverstraw, New York. They were stabbed multiple times and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, police said. Both men sustained severe injuries but were listed in stable condition on Tuesday, authorities said.
"Thanks to the quick and heroic work of our brave officers, the suspect is now in custody and there is no further threat to the public. Thank you as well to the lifeguards and first aid teams that responded equally as quickly," Mayor Paul Kanitra said on Facebook.
Witnesses had reported seeing two groups of people arguing on the beach for about 15 minutes, according to NBC New York. The argument quickly escalated into a fight and someone then pulled out a knife.
