The Rest in Peace 5K takes place among the gravestones.

The annual Rest in Peace 5K returns to Laurel Hill Cemetery on Oct. 8. It's "a run for the dead, not from them," states the race description. Registration is currently open for the 5 p.m. race.

The run through the graveyard benefits the Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery, a nonprofit that works to preserve Laurel Hill's programs and history.

Since the race takes place in October -- in a cemetery -- participants are encouraged to get into the spirit of Halloween and dress in costume. Prizes won't just be given to the top 5K runners; there will also be a Best Couple Costume and Group Costume competition.

Once the race is over, enjoy free beer, Halloween-themed snacks and music.

Individual registration is $15 for kids age 8-12, $20 for those age 13-19 and $35 for anyone over 20. Register as a team of five or more and receive a discount.
