Philadelphia police are investigating after a woman claimed her 14-year-old son was viciously attacked Saturday afternoon by a group of 10 to 12 teenagers in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.
According to NBC 10, the boy's mother, Jennifer Simon, said her son and his 15-year-old cousin were walking along Vandike Street around 4:45 p.m. when the group of teenagers approached and asked if they knew a person named "Robert." When the boys replied that they didn't know "Robert," the teenagers allegedly ambushed Simon's son, bruising his ribs and leaving several cuts on his head.
The teen, who asked not to be identified, said that the attack started when one of the boys in the group punched him in the neck. When he and his cousin tried to walk away, the group followed them and continued to attack, shoving the boy into a metal garage doorway.
After the boy's cousin helped him get back on his feet, the two ran to a nearby 7-11 and called police for help.
Jennifer Simon filed a police report and says she plans to press charges against the group when they are tracked down. In post on the Mayfair Facebook page, Simon requested help from the public to locate and identify the suspects.
My 14-year-old son was jumped tonight on Vandike between Tyson and Princeton at 4:45pm. It was by a group of kids 12-14 years old some on bikes. The one child has orange hair who caused my son to get 3 staples and a bruised rib. The boys were white and black there were about 12 of them. Anyone with info contact the 15th or inbox Mayfair. Someone has to know who these kids are. Thanks in advance.
Local residents told NBC 10 that a group of teens had been seen hanging out at several locations in the neighborhood on Saturday and that several kids on bikes have recently been starting trouble in Mayfair.
Police continue to search for suspects in the attack.
