The Eagles were awarded a fourth-round draft pick for the loss of Trey Burton in free agency.

On Friday, the NFL handed out 32 compensatory picks to teams around the league, including the Philadelphia Eagles, who were awarded two of them, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

If you're unaware of the mysterious and confusing world of compensatory picks, you can catch up to some degree here, but the CliffsNotes version is that teams that have lost more free agents than they gained during free agency are awarded free draft picks the following year for some dumb reason.

Last offseason, for the first time in a long time, the Eagles lost more free agents than they gained, and were thus in line for some of those sweet free draft picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. They were awarded the following:

  1. A fourth-round pick for the loss of Trey Burton to the Chicago Bears.
  2. A sixth-round pick, presumably for the loss of either Beau Allen or Patrick Robinson.

It was expected that the Eagles would receive three compensatory picks, not two, per OverTheCap.com's compensatory pick cancellation chart.

The Birds now have eight picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, noted below:

 RoundOverall How acquired
 1 25Eagles' own pick
