N.J. State Police sergeant charged with DWI after accident in patrol car

A New Jersey State Police sergeant accused of driving while intoxicated has been charged and suspended, NBC10 reports.

Sgt. Michael Roadside, 51, allegedly rear-ended a white Audi in the parking lot of the nearby Monmouth Rest Stop in Wall Township while working construction detail on the Garden State Parkway on Monday. He also allegedly had an open container of alcohol in his patrol car.

The female driver of the Audi was not injured.

Roadside's blood alcohol level was said to be 0.16, twice the legal limit.

The 28-year veteran of the force was suspended without pay Tuesday after being relieved of his service weapon Monday night.

Roadside was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and having an open container of alcohol in his patrol vehicle.
