Philadelphia man commits suicide during traffic stop on Pennsylvania Turnpike

A Philadelphia man committed suicide during a traffic stop on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to multiple reports.

The incident occurred Friday around 10:30 p.m. on the northbound lanes of the Northeast Extension in Bear Creek Township, according to The Citizens' Voice.

A state trooper pulled over a 2001 Chevrolet Impala that was driving erratically.

The Times Leader reports that 22-year-old Emmanuel Giddings, Jr. was asked to exit the vehicle for a field sobriety test. Instead, Giddings pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head, killing him instantly.

Police say illegal drugs were found in a search of the vehicle.
