Officials are telling residents to be cautious after a person in Burlington County was bitten by a raccoon that tested positive for rabies.
On Tuesday, the Evesham Township Police Department said it had been informed by the Burlington County Health Department that a raccoon had tested positive for rabies after biting a resident of the Kings Grant apartment complex in Marlton.
According to CBSPhilly, the resident is an unidentified woman who is getting precautionary shots and awaiting test results, while the animal has been destroyed.
Officials are asking that area residents be careful to avoid the disease. Keep pets' vaccinations up to date, avoid animals displaying unnatural behavior and seek medical assistance immediately if bitten or scratched by an animal.
