A Philadelphia police cruiser.

A man died Thursday morning after he allegedly grabbed a Philadelphia police officer and was struck by another officer's stun gun, according to authorities.

The incident happened near 10th and Poplar streets around 5 a.m. Police responded to a 911 call of a person screaming.

When officers arrived, the man was seen jumping up and down on his red truck while screaming, police said.

As one officer approached the man, he jumped from the truck and ran over to the driver's side of the police vehicle, allegedly grabbing a female officer by the neck, police said.

The female officer hit the man with her baton, and another officer reportedly deployed a stun gun on the man, according to authorities.

After getting him to the ground and handcuffed, the officers saw the man was unresponsive and tried to administer aid, including a dose of Naloxone, as they believed the man may have overdosed on drugs.

The man — who was 55 years old, according to local media reports — was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he died. His cause of death has yet to be determined.

The police department's homicide and internal affairs units will investigate the incident.
