Artist Uppekha Jain and TV host Pankhuri Awasthi are speaking out against rape in India.

Addressing the problem of sexual violence on a scale that can broadly influence society requires bravery and willingness to confront the discomfort of an ingrained taboo.

In India, a rap duo based out of Mumbai are using the power of rhyme to confront a situation that found an average of 92 women raped across the nation every day in 2013, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.

Artist Uppekha Jain and TV host Pankhuri Awasthi teamed up as Bombaebs to release a spoken-word YouTube video that has amassed nearly 500,000 views in less than two weeks.
As a nation, India is a 1000 shades of Fabulous and yet there's still 999 issues that hold us back. 'RAP AGAINST RAPE' is a piece that addresses all that needs immediate fixing - particularly for women!
The pair takes on misogyny in an appeal to society at large, calling out the behavioral expectations and political blind eye that allow harmful attitudes to persist.

As MSNBC points out, the video comes after the release of a BBC documentary, "India's Daughter," about the story of a 23-year-old woman, Jyoti Singh, who was gang-raped in Delhi and died of her injuries in 2012. The documentary, released in February, was banned by the Indian government after the public reacted furiously to comments made by one of the men convicted in the case who was interviewed by British filmmaker Leslie Udwin.

The duo have been quick to embrace the support they have received so far, as their message strikes a chord with activists in India and around the world.
