Burger Brawl, located at Xfinity Live! in South Philadelphia, was attended by 4,200 people this year, up from 3,000 last year.

Fifty-four contenders duked it out yesterday at Xfinity Live!'s Burger Brawl, with Village Whiskey emerging as the judges' pick for best burger.

Village Whiskey's "Frenchy" slider burger consisted of a beef patty with Gruyere cheese, black truffle aioli and a Cabernet grilled onion on a toasted bun. The burger is typically served as a February burger-of-the-month staple for the restaurant. Voting was conducted by 30 panelists (disclosure: one from PhillyVoice) who selected their favorite burgers in a three-round blind tasting.

Blue Duck, a year-old Northeast Philadelphia new American restaurant, won the event's popular vote with a beef-duck hybrid burger containing red onion, jalapeno bacon jam and smoked Gouda on a brioche roll. The BYO restaurant also won the popular choice award last year.

This year's Burger Brawl hosted 4,200 people and raised $208,000 for children's literacy and computer-lab funding in Philadelphia. Sunday's competition was the event's fifth since 2011; it was founded by Rouge owners Rob and Maggie Wasserman
