During a rainy morning rush hour, a New Jersey law enforcement officer was thrust into action when an expectant mother couldn't make it to the hospital in time.

New Jersey State Police shared dashcam video Thursday showing the officer assisting the woman on the side of a highway. The delivery occurred around 8:15 a.m. on Interstate 78 in Summit, Union County.

The expectant mother was in labor while being transported to a local hospital by a friend. However, the baby had other plans, forcing the pair to the side of the road. The driver stopped the car under an overpass to call 9-1-1 as rain fell and cars motored along the highway.

Trooper II Christopher Gesualdo responded to the scene and found the mother in the back seat of the vehicle. Within minutes, the woman delivered a baby girl into the waiting arms of the trooper.

Paramedics arrived and transported the mother and baby to St. Barnabas Medical Center where they are doing well.
