On Thursday, July 13, music-lovers can go see a show and help a local organization at the same time.
There will be a benefit for Beyond the Bars at Boot & Saddle from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Beyond the Bars provides musical instruments (and instruction on how to use them) to incarcerated youth in the Greater Philadelphia area.
"Our strategy focuses on getting youth to perform music together and play complete songs in a performance setting. By having students see the reward of their work, this element of the program helps bolster self esteem within a population that has had it destroyed," states the organization's website.
Beyond the Bars also works "to ensure that our students continue to grow throughout their adolescence and that they are leaving the system with more opportunities than they had going in."
The benefit will be $10 to attend and will feature three performers. GrandeMarshall, Kuf Knotz and Chill Moody are set to take the stage.
“Having the ability to create frees us mentally and with the right resources can help towards reform," Moody said about why the benefit is important to him.
