Penn Medicine physician executive tapped to lead Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic Medical Group

Joseph Teel will oversee a physician network spanning Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, with a focus on expanding access to care.

Joseph Teel has been named president of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic Medical Group, overseeing its physician network across Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic has named Joseph Teel, MD, FAAFP, FACHE, president of the Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic Medical Group, placing the longtime physician executive in charge of a regional network serving patients across Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

Teel, who began the role Sept. 8, will work with physicians, advanced practice providers and operational leaders to expand access to care, support clinical quality and guide the medical group’s continued growth. His responsibilities also will include strengthening clinician retention and advancing value-based care, an approach designed to improve patient outcomes while making care more coordinated and efficient.

Teel joins Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic from Penn Medicine, where he most recently served as chief of regional primary care for the Penn Medicine Medical Group. He also served as an advisory dean and professor of clinical family medicine and community health at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.

His experience includes leading a large, multistate primary care medical group and working to expand patient access and retain clinicians.

Teel earned his undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency at the Middlesex Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Middletown, Connecticut, where he served as chief resident during his final year.

He later fulfilled a National Health Service Corps commitment at Johnson Health Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. Teel served as the center’s medical director for the final two years of his commitment before returning to Philadelphia to continue his medical career.

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic provides care through six hospitals, primary care practices, health centers and more than 200 outpatient locations across the three-state region.
