A family rides down JFK Boulevard Saturday afternoon in Center City.

We’re already 12 days into National Bike Month, but there are still plenty of events left on the calendar.  The Bicycle Coalition has a complete rundown, but here are some highlights.

Not all NBM’s rides are about fun and exercise. At the Ride for Reading, cyclists will gather on the morning of May 12 to deliver books to Hamilton Elementary School. If you want, you can stick around for an assembly about healthy living.

The Take Your Time Ride on May 17 is all about the scenic route. The social, women-only peloton starts near Rittenhouse Square at ends up at La Peg.

There are lots of ways to prepare your bike and yourself to ride year-round, but one week celebrates commuting by bike above all others. Bike to Work Week is from May 16-20 this year, if you’re not up to all of it, Bike to Work Day is May 20.

Wednesday, May 18 is the solemn Ride of Silence to pay tribute to bicyclists injured or killed on the road. The eight-mile ride starts at the Art Museum.

The Ladies at the Pumptrack ride starts at Fairmount Bicycles (2015 Fairmount Avenue) and ends up at the Philly Pumptrack — a course built for rough riding, jumping and other dirty fun. Bikes built for that sort of thing will be available at your destination.
