Flyers prospects: Travis Konecny traded (in juniors), scores ridiculous shootout goal for new team

If you thought the NHL trades last week were crazy, there was also some serious player movement in the OHL that involved a top Philadelphia Flyers prospect. #FormerFlyer Derian Hatcher and the Sarnia Sting went all-in and traded a ton of picks and players to the Ottawa 67’s for top Flyers prospect Travis Konecny.

Does the idea of trades involving top junior prospects seem crazy to you? Yeah, me too. But from what it sounds like, the 67’s are a mediocre team that wanted to cash in on Konecny before he was called up to the Flyers (very possibly next year):

“This involved a lot of stress with a lot of people involved, including ownership,” Brown said. “But I want to be, and our ownership wants to be, like the teams (Brian Kilrea) used to have: competitive every year with a chance to win it all once in a while.

“We really had to do this for the years to come.”

Anyway, Konecny, who said he was “blindsided” by the move, is now teaming up with the sixth-overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Devils prospect Pavel Zacha. The 18-year-old center scored a hat trick in his first game for Sarnia.

In the second game, a shootout victory, Konecny made this filthy move:

It might be worth it to call Konecny up next year just for shootouts.
