Philadelphia may be in the midst of a citywide slim down.
According to Swap.com, a national online consignment retailer that sells clothing, among other things, customers in its Philadelphia market have been purchasing smaller sizes over the past few months – with its shopping trend data showing a 78.3 percent decrease in plus-size clothing sales when comparing November and December 2016 sales to purchases made in January and February of 2017.
Swap.com analyzed its customers' purchasing patterns as a means of ranking which U.S. cities and states appear to be sticking with New Year's weight loss and fitness goals.
According to its data, which it released last Thursday, Charleston, South Carolina, topped its list of 15 U.S. cities experiencing the biggest drop in plus-size clothing sales, with a reported 85.8 percent decrease in plus-size sales based on purchases made in the last two months of 2016 compared to plus-size sales since the new year.
The city of Troy, in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, came in second, seeing an 81.5 percent decrease in plus-size sales over the same timeframe.
Philadelphia came in third.
At the state level, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Missouri saw the biggest drop in plus-size clothing purchases, while Pennsylvania didn't make the top 15 states, based on Swap.com data.
